Stories about the Tories for your leaflets

Here are some stories about Tory policies that you can use in your leaflets (November 2008):

Back to the old Tories - cuts and closures

David Cameron has finally come up with his plan for the economy. When all the economic experts say governments should keep spending money to protect jobs, he says he will cut spending. He wants to do the thing that all experts agree will make things worse.

So here are some questions for David Cameron, his MPs and candidates:

  • Which local schools will you close to pay for your cuts?
  • Which doctors and nurses will you sack, Mr Cameron?
  • How many police officers will you sack?

These Tory custs would mean less jobs and a worse economy, as well as worse public services and more dangerous streets.

Living together but not married? The Tories have some news for you

The Tories always say they want to leave people to live their lives. But if you live with someone but aren't married, the Tories don't like you. David Cameron asked their failed leader Iain Duncan-Smith to come up with new ideas, and Duncan-Smith said that couples who live together should have less rights and less protection than married couples.

Boris Johnson - cuts and more cuts

Boris Johnson is as famous for being on TV comedy shows as for being Mayor of London. But what Boris does is not funny at all. And some people even want him to be the next Tory leader.

Johnson stood for Mayor of London saying he would invest more money in public transport. But as soon as he was elected, he started the cuts:

"
Mayor shelves £3.5bn London Transport plans" (Guardian, 7/11/08)

In one of his first moves as mayor, he has cut over £3.5bn worth of transport schemes. And he threatened another £2.4bn cuts for Transport for London.

Boris Johnson is an old-fashioned Tory - he promises investment, but then cuts services.

Cameron says he would cut public sector pensions

David Cameron announced that any future Conservative government would start to cut public sector pensions for civil servants, teachers, NHS staff, council staff, the police and armed services. So much for compassionate Conservatives.
